visit rope yard

The rope yard Steenbergen based in Horssel (middle of the Netherlands) has experience in handling rope with natural materials. Gerrit Steenbergen is now retired, but his heart is still with the company and he is still active. Full of passion for the craft, he showed us around the workshop. It was full of equipment and tools for various fibers. He explained us the principle of rope making. Fibers are picked apart and by twisting them together they become yarns, with these yarns they create the rope. Fibers like flax and coconut have similarities with the sugarcane fibers. This made the manufacturing processes even more interesting.
